Five Lakes Trail

Five Lakes Trail

Trail Description.  This is a short (4 miles round trip), steep hike that begins on private property and ends in the Granite Chief Wilderness. You will pass more than 5, lovely (unnamed) lakes that are great for fishing and swimming.  The trail is steep and exposed to direct sun so bring lots of water and a hat.  This trail can be crowded on weekends.  Camping is not allowed in the 5 Lakes Basin and please refrain from campfires during peak fire season.

Once the trail plateaus, you will see a side trail leading to the PCT. If you walk on the PCT, plan ahead! If you have time and have prepared a car shuttle, you can hike to Squaw Valley.

Difficulty.
Moderate for hikers.

Directions to Trailhead.    Off of Highway 89, the trailhead is approximately 10 miles south of Truckee, or 4 miles north of Tahoe City.   Take Alpine Meadows Road for 2 miles to the trailhead where you will park along the side of the road.  Camping is not allowed in the Five Lakes Basin.
