A1 and Jackass Ridge Trail
Trail Description. Jackass Ridge Trail has been a local favorite for many years. The Truckee Ranger District and the Truckee Trails Foundation have worked together to adopt this existing user created trail. Jackass trail is now a legal Forest Service system trail where it will soon be signed. This single track mountain bike trail is so fast and flowy that you’ll definitely want to do 2 laps.
A1 is a new 2 mile single track trail that parallel’s the 01 road, the trail can be ridden in both directions but is designed to be ridden downhill. It intersects with the top of Jackass trail about 1/4 mile down the trail. This trail was built in 2019 and has a little of everything, from berms, to rocky tech sections, to fast straightaways, it’s the perfect option to turn your ride into a loop. The lower section that parallels the highway allows you to ride the trail back to your car rather than biking on the hwy. This section will meet up with West River Street and should be completed by mid summer 2020.
Difficulty. Moderate, unless you use the trail to climb to the top then get ready for a lung burner.
Directions to Trailhead. 1/4 south mile south of Truckee on Hwy 89. The bottom of the trail is located just off the hwy. You may park up the FS road 01 to begin your climb. You can choose to drive to the top of the trail, but we suggest biking to the top. It’s a steady climb on the FS road , and can take 30-45min but well worth it. Look for a Huge tree on the right. That’s the start of the trail.
