The Truckee Trails Foundation’s trail crew takes great pride in maintaining over 150 miles of existing non-motorized trail every year. But with the strong desire for more trails (and an internal goal of 35 new miles in the next 4 years) TTF realized that our community’s trails ambitions could be most efficiently achieved by enhancing volunteer opportunities. While traditional volunteer trail building days will also take place, new opportunities for more independent trail stewardship are now available. Options include: trail adoption (taking on basic trail maintenance two times each season); trailhead adoption (general trash pick-up and pruning); trail scouting (reporting maintenance needs); and trail sponsor (financial donations for TTF’s crew to conduct the maintenance). While TTF will ask that volunteers commit to three consecutive years, the benefits of participation include trailhead signage listing the adopter’s name or business, social media posts, and TTF t-shirts. “Both TTF and the U.S. Forest Service are excited to be offering greater opportunities for the community to join is in our trail stewardship efforts,” said Allison Pedley, TTF Executive Director. “We think the net benefit to the community will be significant.”
