In partnership with the Truckee Ranger District, TTF’s crew has embarked on an ambitious project to build (or re-build) at least 7 miles of new trail this summer in the Sawtooth area. With a limited number of trails suitable for beginner mountain bikers or the mobility challenged, two of our projects are designed with these users in mind. Construction will include: a 1-mile loop trail to be constructed in compliance with the American’s with Disabilities Act; 4.5 miles of mountain bike trail connecting Sawtooth and Bald Mountain trails to access points, and new loop options; 3 miles of new trail connecting the Sawtooth system to Placer County easements to the east; and a 1.5-mile non-motorized trail paralleling the 06 Road, offering a dust-free alternative to walking on the road. As well, TTF is already working to re-establish trail at Bald Mountain that were disturbed by the recent vegetation management project. As the season progresses, TTF will be welcoming volunteers to help us reach our season-end goals for this area. “Volunteers are going to be critical to making this all happen in 2021,” said TTF Program Director, Leslie Loveland.
