Walking the Proposed Route

Last week Truckee Trails and partner Bicyclists of Nevada County (BONC) loaded up our gear for a two-day scouting trip along the proposed route of the Pines to Mines Trail. Larry Lehman, Lead Project Engineer and Filip Grgic, Field Director from Truckee Trails, and Jane Ragan of BONC walked the yet-to-be-constructed center section of the trail we call the “Missing Link.” The roughly 20-mile segment, part of the proposed 80-mile trail connecting Truckee to Nevada City, interlinks existing trails – Hole in the Ground with Grouse Ridge Trail. The Missing Link will take hikers, bikers, and equestrians into the stunning backcountry terrain of Red Mountain and beyond.

Fil and Jane look over just some of the natural ‘features’ that trail designers and construction teams will have to work with as they craft the Missing Link segment.

With this work, the vision for Pines to Mines Trail comes into focus a bit more and our goal of being shovel-ready to start construction in 2024 takes another step forward.
