Help us Forge the Path

The Truckee Trails Foundation promotes, builds, maintains and fundraises for a comprehensive and connected system of local and regional trails and bikeways. Our advocacy efforts have contributed to over 38 miles of paved trails and bikeways in Truckee over the past 14 years. For dirt trails, we have invested over $250,000 in trail building and maintenance efforts since 2013. This includes volunteer trail maintenance days every summer, as well as a full-time trail crew for 5 months every year.

STEPS WE’VE TAKEN

  • 2023: Completed the Back-cut Trail, Cross-cut Trail and Sawyer Trail, all in the Sawtooth Zone. 2023 was also an extremely busy summer for trail maintenance, including over 190 downed trees removed from trails.
  • 2022: Completed the Compass Skills Loop and made upgrades to our Woodsplitter Jump Trail.
  • 2021: Constructed the Ridgeline Nature Loop, Gentle Jeffrey Trail, & Woodsplitter Jump Trail, and completed major changes to the existing Happy Face Trail.
  • 2020: Cleared 170 downed trees on over 200 miles of trail.
  • 2020: Began installing new wayfinding and trailhead signs.
  • 2020: Our crew members built the Lower Carpenter Valley Trail with the Truckee Donner Land Trust.
  • 2019: Completed the upper 2 mile section of the new El Burro (A1) trail.
  • 2019: Completed first stages of an alignment for a new trail that will connect Sawtooth trail to Granite Flat Campground.
  • Assessed feasibility of a new trail connecting Riverview Sports Park to Waddle Ranch and the Legacy Trail.
  • 2018: Completed the 8.1 mile Big Chief Trail.
  • 2018: Completed Elizabethtown Trail.
  • Continuing plans for the proposed Pines to Mines (Truckee to Nevada City) Trail.
  • 2017-2019: Completed a major re-route of the Upper Emigrant Trail, installed 2 new bridges over Alder Creek.
  • Completed over 2,400 paid crew hours and 1,500 volunteer hours on our area’s favorite dirt trails.

WHAT’S ON THE PATH AHEAD for 2024?

  • TTF will have a full-time, seasonal, 5-person trail crew out working on our area’s most beloved and utilized dirt trails.
  • Pines to Mines Trail construction.
  • Construction of 2 more miles of trail in the Sawtooth Zone.
  • Completion of A1 trail connecting to West River Street.
  • Finalizing plans to build Sawtooth Trail to Truckee River connector.
  • Finalizing plans to build a Thelin to Legacy Trail connector.
