SUMMARY:August Volunteer Trail Day
DESCRIPTION:WHERE | Sawtooth Trail Network\nWHEN | Saturday\, August 26th\, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM\nREGISTER NOW   (It’s FREE but registration is appreciated)\nStetina\nGet outside\, do good\, and meet new friends. You’ll dig and haul\, rake and clear\, and\, more generally\, be a real part of building new trails and reshaping existing routes. Together\, we’ll get dirty\, do big things\, and finish it all off with a cold beer. If that sounds like a good day out on the trail to you\, register now. \nA Few Things to Know \n\nLocation: You will be working on one or more trails in the Sawtooth Trail Network in Truckee. If you aren’t familiar with this trail network\, here is more info. Participants will receive a detailed meetup location after registration\, so please register today.\nClothing: We recommend that you wear pants\, comfortable trail shoes\, a hat (for sun protection)\, eye protection (sunglasses are ok)\, and a lightweight shirt with a second removable layer for the morning when temps can be cooler.\nGloves and Tools: Optionally\, consider bringing your favorite work gloves and yard tools such as a rake or shovel. But\, don’t worry\, we have both available\, along with hard hats\, if you opt not to bring your own.\nSnacks/Water … Beer: We supply snacks and water during the work window and cold beers to celebrate a solid day of trail work after we finish. Please plan to bring you own lunch – we have plenty of break time to enjoy it out on the trail.\nTest Runs: For this volunteer day we’ll be working primarily on mountain bike routes so bring your trail-friendly bike and take a few runs to test out your team’s trail work.\nTrail Work: You’ll be building new trail section(s) and/or repairing existing trails with all work in the same location within the Sawtooth Trail Network.\nKids: Well-behaved children aged 12 and up may participate in trail work with or without their parents. Either way\, parents are asked to sign a waiver on behalf of their child at the beginning of the day. Children under 12 years old are not eligible for this particular trail day.\n\nWe look forward to seeing you out on the trail. Please email Jeff Patrick (jeff@truckeetrails.org)  if you have any questions. \nThanks for your interest in volunteering with Truckee Trails. We dig trails and now you can\, too! \nReminder\, please register if you plan to participate.

SUMMARY:BIG CHIEF TRAIL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
DESCRIPTION:BIG CHIEF TRAIL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY\n\nWHEN\n\nFriday\, June 28 at 3pm \n\n\nWHERE\nBig Chief’s Northstar Trailhead\n(intersection of Fiberboard Freeway and 500 Road – watch for signs.)\n\nWHO\n\nAll Members of the Public & Media Are Welcome \n\nGROUP RIDE\nNorthstar will be offering lift tickets for those interested in parking at the resort and bringing their bike up for a post-ceremony ride down the trail.  RSVP is required by June 25 to obtain lift ticket.  Contact Leslie@TruckeeTrails.org\, TTF Program Manager\, for detailed map and to RSVP.\n\n\n  \nLocal Trails Partnership Opens New Trail in Truckee \nRibbon Cutting Ceremony & Trail Ride June 28 \nTruckee\, CA\, June 15\, 2019 – The Truckee Trails Foundation (TTF)\, United States Forest Service (USFS)\, and Northstar California Resort announce the official completion of the Big Chief Trail connecting the Sawtooth Trail in Sierra Meadows with Watson Lake and the Tahoe Rim Trail.  A ribbon cutting ceremony\, with ice cream from the Little Truckee Ice Creamery\, will be held at 3 PM on Friday\, June 28. There will be an optional group ride down the trail after the ceremony. \nHome to world-class singletrack trails\, Truckee is a hub of biking activity for locals and visitors alike. The 7-mile Big Chief Trail connection provides a new trail network route for users\, with scenic views that were previously inaccessible. \n“The Truckee Trails Foundation is thrilled with the outcome of this project\,” said Andy Buckley\, TTF’s President. “Our crew\, together with USFS personnel and countless volunteers worked extremely hard to complete the effort by the end of last season.” \nWith substantial funding from the National Forest Foundation and Recreational Equipment\, Inc. (REI)\, the project involved a strong local partnership of the USFS\, TTF\, and Northstar California. TTF proposed a Truckee-to-Tahoe Rim Trail connection to the USFS several years ago\, and the stars aligned when Northstar agreed to work with the USFS and TTF on a critical 1-mile connection on their land that represented the best alignment option that the USFS developed for this trail. Northstar also provided funding and two employee volunteer days to make this project a reality. \n“The National Forest Foundation is thrilled to be part of the creation of the Big Chief Trail and the exciting recreational opportunities it brings to the Tahoe-Truckee area. We are grateful for the support and partnership of REI and REI Co-op Mastercard cardholders\, which was critical to helping us accomplish this work\,” said Sarah De Vittorio\, NFF Program Manager. \nBig Chief is open to all non-motorized uses\, but will be managed for mountain bikers. The trail was constructed with numerous technical terrain features designed to provide variety and challenge to different skill levels. \n“The features\, along with the incredible views\, are what really make this trail\,” indicated Allison Pedley\, TTF’s Executive Director.  “With names like ‘Log Ride\,’ ‘Nathaniel’s Bench\,’ ‘The Chutes\,’ and ‘Super Rock Berm\,’ our trail crew put a lot of thought and love into the technical components of their work.”
